Unexpected expenses can arise at any time. Muru Mittigar’s No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) is here to help, offering free, fair support in a safe and respectful environment. As a proud Aboriginal organisation, we welcome anyone. Walk-in, phone, online enquiries and community referrals accepted.

Washing machine broke down? Unexpected car repairs? Need a new laptop for work or school?

We’ll pay the invoice for you (NO CASH). Unexpected expenses are bound to pop up from time to time. Don’t choose an option that might get you into trouble later. With NILs, you only pay back what you borrow, nothing more.

How does NILS work?

Submit your invoice with your application and NILs will pay it straight to the supplier / vendor. Loans cannot be used for cash, bills, debts or rent.

What can I use a NILs loan for?

Borrow up to $2000 for essential goods and services including:

  • Household items like appliances, whitegoods and furniture
  • Car repairs
  • Medical, dental, wellbeing and life event expenses
  • Technology like a computer or laptop (up to $2000 limit)
  • Technology like a phone, tablet and other small electronic devices (up to $1000 limit)
  • Education expenses like fees or uniforms
  • Employment expenses like licenses or equipment

Borrow up to $3000:

  • Bond on a new rental property
  • Costs associated with a natural disaster

NILs cannot be used for cash, bills, rent or debts.

To apply we will require the following documents:

  • Photo ID
  • Proof of your Income
  • Proof of residence
  • (Rent ledger, council rates if property is owned by you along with water rates)
  • Last 90 days bank transactions (not statements)
  • Latest electricity, gas, phone, internet bill
  • Current loans or rentals within last 3 months
  • Quote for loan item on a Company letterhead.

The letterhead must include, ABN and bank details, eg. Good Guys, Fantastic Furniture or Mechanics. Make, model & cost of the item.

How much can I borrow?

Borrow up to $2000 for essentials such as appliances or furniture, car repairs, a new computer or laptop, medical, dental or vet expenses. Borrow up to $3000 for bond on a new rental property or for recovery from a natural disaster.

Am I Eligible?

  • I have a Health Care or Pension Card OR
  • I earn less than $70,000 (before tax) annual income as a single OR
  • I earn less than $100,000 (before tax) annual income and I have a partner or dependents OR
  • I have experienced family or domestic violence in the last 10 years AND
  • I have lived at my current address for a minimum of three months AND
  • I can afford to repay the loan

Community Outcomes

Muru Mittigar Community Finance Hub has been helping community members with NILS and Financial Counselling since 2011. In 2016 we added EAPA (Energy Accounts Payment Assistance) and in 2020, Oz Harvest food assistance to our services. So far, we have helped over 2,500 people and have arranged over $2 million in no interest loans.
