Empowering Community Through Financial Wellbeing

For over two decades, Muru Mittigar has been a trusted Aboriginal organisation working alongside the community to create practical, lasting change. Located in Western Sydney, our Community Finance Hub continues this mission by offering free, confidential and culturally safe financial support to those who need it most.

Our goal is simple: to reduce financial stress and create opportunity. Since 2011, we’ve supported thousands of individuals and families with access to essential services including No Interest Loans (NILs), Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA), financial counselling, and food support through OzHarvest.

Supporting the Community: One Step at a Time

We understand that financial stress can impact every part of life. That’s why our Community Finance Hub is open to anyone who needs support, whether you’re managing an emergency expense, navigating utility bills or simply need someone to guide you through a difficult financial situation.

You can access our services through walk-ins, phone, online enquiries or via referrals from other community organisations.

Our Impact Since 2011

  • Over 2,500 clients assisted

  • $2 million in No Interest Loans arranged

  • Expanded services to include EAPA in 2016 and OzHarvest hampers in 2020

No Interest Loans (NILs)

0% interest. No fees. No charges. Ever.

Muru Mittigar is an approved No Interest Loan Scheme (NILs) provider, giving eligible clients access to small loans to cover essential goods and services – without the burden of interest or hidden fees.

Unexpected costs such as car repairs, new appliances, laptops for work or school or medical expenses can place significant pressure on households. NILs ensure you’re supported without resorting to high-risk credit options.

How It Works:

  • Submit a quote or invoice with your application

  • NILs pays the supplier directly – no cash is provided

  • You repay only what you borrow, over a fair and manageable term

What Can I Borrow For?

You can apply for up to:

  • $2,000 for:

    • Appliances, whitegoods and furniture

    • Car repairs

    • Education or employment-related costs

    • Medical, dental and wellbeing expenses

    • Technology (e.g, computers, laptops, mobile phones devices)

  • $3,000 for:

    • Bond for a new rental property

    • Recovery costs after a natural disaster

Note: NILs cannot be used for cash, rent, bills or to repay existing debt.

Who is Eligible?

You may qualify if:

  • You hold a Health Care Card or Pension Card OR

  • You earn less than $70,000 (before tax) as a single OR

  • You earn less than $100,000 (before tax) as a couple or with dependants OR

  • You have experienced family or domestic violence in the past 10 years

And:

  • You have lived at your current address for at least 3 months

  • You can comfortably repay the loan
