Background

A grant has been awarded to Muru Mittigar from the Office for Women, NSW Premier's Dept. for a project involving the Employment of an Aboriginal Child Development Officer (Family Day Care Award) with resources to recruit, train and facilitate the accreditation and licensing of self employment opportunities, for 20 Aboriginal Family Day Carers. Assist 100 Aboriginal families to use licensed accredited childcare and receive Child Care benefit.

Proposed Achievments

• Long term sustainable employment opportunities primarily for Aboriginal women in the western fringe of Metropolitan area.
• Integrate Aboriginal families into the existing Family Day Care support network.
• Network with other Aboriginal organistions to ensure that services are not duplicated.
• Network with other Aboriginal employment agencies and CDEP programmes to ensure quality of employment outcomes and services.
• Provide choice for Aboriginal families in the placement of their children with trained, licensed, accredited and Commonwealth funded Aboriginal carers.
• Provide feedback about project'successes and failures, to enable positive outcomes for this and future projects like it.
